I just recently started listening to podcasts and I subscribe to this one. I listened to this interview as I was driving up to Long Beach from San Diego for my sister's 50th birthday party. I certainly wasn't prepared for what you had to say...
ReplyDeleteThere were many moments there, as I was listening to you talk, where I had this full-body, physiological response to your words. Almost like a fight-or-flight response: my heart rate shot up, all of my body hair stood up straight, and my ears started ringing. And then you said something like: this podcast allows someone out there to hear me. I almost started to cry!
It was as though I was hearing something that I knew but had forgotten. And your words gave me such hope. I'm currently struggling immensely from a recent (and really shitty) diagnosis that has turned my life upside down...and the loss of my marriage and my job as a result. But when you said that I chose this life in order for me to learn and grow from an important lesson...it struck me. Instead of feeling helpless, I now feel inspired. So thank you Richard Martini. Oh my god thank you.
I want more. I ordered your book. I'm so friggen excited about all of this.
Thank you.
Diane
Sorry to hear of your predicament Diane. Very hard to see light at the end of the tunnel when your world is flipped upside down. Trick is to realize a diagnosis is not a sentence, the loss of the old is the only way to get to the new. There's a lot to be said for seeing the bigger picture of health - many great doctors out there, but also meditation can help with symptoms of depression, and a healthy outlook and laughter can help. Hope things get better, you get well, and thanks for posting!
